Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of ICAR-KVK Organised

The Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai was organised today at the ICAR-KVK Namsai conference hall.  The meeting aimed to deliberate on the action plan for 2025-2026 and review the achievements of 2024.

The meeting was chaired by Shri Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, AH&V, and Allied Sectors, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted the vast arable land in Namsai, offering opportunities for agricultural and allied sector development. Dr Wangsu addressed the lack of quality "feed, seed, and sucker" for farmers and suggested trials for the pig breed 'Rani,' upskilling farmers in mushroom spawn production, and improving crop productivity by introducing high-quality seeds from ICAR institutes. He also accentuated that while there is significant potential for potato production, blight diseases remain a major challenge. Additionally, he emphasized conserving local germplasms, promoting vermicomposting, and utilizing farm and kitchen waste for additional income and soil fertility.

Shri C. R. Khampa, Deputy Commisioner., Namsai, emphasised that the critical field observations and experience of line departments can be incorporated in the action plan of the KVK. He stated that the potential for agriculture in Namsai can be achieved through need-based technology dissemination along with an assessment of marketing constraints.

Dr L. Wangchu, HoRC, ICAR AP Centre, Basar, urged incorporation of citrus greening, and dry root rot-related solutions in the on-farm-testing.

Dr K. Sarmah, DVO, Ms. Joram Rupa, Assistant Director Fishery, and other senior officials also graced the occasion. 

A presentation and thorough discussion on Annual Action Plan 2025-26 during the presentations made on Animal Science, Plant Protection, Agricultural Extension, and Agronomy was organised during the programme. Spice Board representative advocated about spreading awareness regarding seed treatment of ginger to prevent soft rot. 

Enriched by the inputs received from participating progressive farmers the SAC reaffirmed its commitment to enhance agricultural productivity and farmers’ welfare through innovative practices and collaborative efforts in the coming year.
