Regional Workshop on Natural Farming for Kandi Region organized

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana, Punjab organized the Regional Workshop on “Natural Farming:  Opportunities and Constraints in Kandi Region of North India” at the Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri, Nawanshahar, Punjab today.

The Chief Guest, Padma Shri Awardee, Dr. B.S. Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab stressed on collaborative efforts in the field of researchers and extension to overcome the constraints of organic and natural farming in Kandi Region of North-Western India. Dr. Dhillon urged for jointly conducting the research experiments at the Regional Research Centre, Ballowal Saunkhri. He also advised the scientists working for standardization of technologies for the Kandi region to visit the experiments frequently.

Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, Himachal Pradesh urged the Universities to make concerted efforts for the organic and natural agri-production in Kandi region that has common crops across the states.

Dr. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Jammu highlighted the technological gaps which hinders development of the Kandi region to a great extent in addition to lack of availability of quality land and water resources.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI Ludhiana, Punjab highlighted the importance of natural farming in the present scenario and its potential in the future. He also underlined the main objective of the workshop and role played by the KVKs of the zone in developing organic farming in the region.

The Scientists, Heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Farmers from three states of North-Western area including Kandi area, viz., Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir participated in the workshop.
