QRT Team of ICAR-NDRI, Karnal visits ICAR-KVK Nadia, West Bengal

The Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) of ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal visited the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalyani, Nadia district, West Bengal today to assess various activities of ICAR-KVK. 

Dr S. L. Goswami, Former Director, ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad; along with QRT Team members Dr U. Rai; Dr R. K. Sethi; Dr H. N. Mishra; Dr R. Malhotra; Shri A. K. Khosla and Dr S. Onteru, visited ICAR-KVK, Nadia. 

Dr Dheer Singh, Director, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Dr R. Sharma, Joint Director, ICAR-NDRI, Karnal; Scientists of NDRI ERS and KVK and other staff of the institute were also present during the visit.

Various demonstration units present at the KVK, including high-density dragon fruit cultivation through a trailing system, apple ber production, and high-density pineapple cultivation with weed mat technology were showcased during the visit. The team also observed the duck-rearing unit and the rainwater harvesting cum fish-rearing unit. Additionally, the QRT members assessed performance evaluation cum seed production plots of Indian mustard and rice varieties, along with ongoing On-Farm Trials (OFTs).

The team later visited the IFS site of Shri Devayan Chatterjee, a well-trained farmer from the ICAR-KVK, which featured poultry, livestock, goat farming, fodder production, as well as agricultural and horticultural crops. They also visited the KVK-adopted village of Raotara in Krishna Nagar-1 block to assess the impact and effectiveness of KVK's activities. The visit offered valuable insights into the village’s progress and allowed the team to evaluate ongoing initiatives, including tissue culture banana, berseem demonstration plots, community seedling production of rice varieties, and CFLD on Lentil while identifying areas for future activities.

The visit was coordinated by Ms H. Veesam (SMS, Ag. Extension) and Dr C. Sahu (SMS, Livestock Production and Management).
