86th Foundation Day of ICAR was celebrated at Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) on 16th July 2014. Directors of ICAR Institutes at Jodhpur, functionaries from State Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and farmers from the nearby villages besides scientists and staff of CAZRI participated in the event
Dr. Pritam B. Yashwant, IAS, Collector, Jodhpur was Chief Guest. He appreciated the role of CAZRI and underlined the necessity of greater adoption and extension of CAZRI’s technologies to the last man in the farming community in order to benefit entire chain for bringing prosperity in this region.. A contingency plan prepared by CAZRI to face impending delay in rains and its consequences was released by him on this occasion. He also distributed Certificates to ten farmers for their accomplishments.
Dr. M. M. Roy, Director, CAZRI through a presentation traced the history of ICAR since 1886 and the role of National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in enhancing, productivity of all commodities of crops, fruits, spices, livestock and marine resources. CAZRI’s contribution for the farmers’ in Western Rajasthan was also highlighted.
Farmers from nearby villages and line department functionaries expressed their views and appreciated the empowerment in knowledge as well as technology and machinery provided to them by CAZRI, leading to rise in productivity by 2-3 times.
Dr. Dipankar Saha, Senior Scientist, CAZRI compered the programme and films on ICAR and CAZRI were played.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Head of Division (II), CAZRI welcomed the guests and the participants.
Dr. A. K. Mishra, Head of Division (IV), CAZRI and Officer-in-Charge, CAZRI - KVK at Jodhpur proposed the vote of thanks.
