Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Baba Ramdev inaugurated Jaggery processing unit of ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Piprakothi, East Champaran today.
The Union Minister, in his address said establishment of such jaggery processing units will be of great help for economic well-being of sugarcane farmers in the areas.
Baba Ram Dev, in his inaugural address said Jaggery produced by organic process and IISR technique is very good for human health and its production and marketing in large scale is important for strengthening farming economy of the Bihar state.
Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, ICAR-IISR Lucknow; Dr. J.P. Upadhyay, Director Research, Dr. K.M. Singh, Director Extension, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur (Bihar); Dr. K.K. Jha, Head, KVK, Piprakothi; Scientists of ICAR-IISR, KVK officials, senior officials of University and large number of people representatives were present in the inaugural function.
At this occasion a Kisan goshthi was also organized by ICAR-IISR in which more than 5000 farmers participated. Sugarcane production technology was showcased through live materials, exhibits, banners etc. Scientists of ICAR-IISR also provided useful information on Jaggery making and scientific cultivation of sugarcane to the participating farmers.
