Training Programme on “Climate-Resilient Crops for Food & Nutritional Security - Maize Value Chain Systems for Sustainable Livelihoods via Better Production, Protection & Price” organized

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, Punjab organized the four-day Training Programme on Climate-Resilient Crops for Food & Nutritional Security - Maize Value Chain Systems for Sustainable Livelihoods via Better Production, Protection & Price” from 24th to 27th May, 2021.

The Chief Guest, Dr. V.S. Sohu, Head Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana highlighted the significance of developing the Maize value chain for adaptation and mitigation to climate change. The present issues of decline of the natural resources and environmental degradation, especially, water table decline and crop residue burning, etc., were underlined by Dr. Sohu.

Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana outlined the activities undertaken by the Institute for promoting the Maize in the country more, especially, in Punjab. He urged the trainees for promoting the improved Maize based cropping system technologies among the farmers for the environmental sustainability and profitability.

Dr. Chitore Guha Sarkar, Head Agriculture, Tata Trusts, Mumbai, Maharashtra underlined activities of the Tata Trusts in improving the livelihood of farmers across the poorest Districts of the country.

A total of 26 participants from 14 States participated in the Training Programme.
