The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Chhattisgarh organized the “Pen Culture Demonstration Programme” at Taurenga Reservoir today.
The programme was aimed at raising the In-Situ Fingerling in the Pen for enhancing the production of the Reservoir in a cost-effective manner.

Dr. B.K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and Shri N.S. Nag, Director of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Government of Chhattisgarh released the Fish Seeds in Pen installed in the Reservoir.
Dr. Das highlighted the importance of Pen Culture for fish production enhancement in the Reservoirs. Value of fish for livelihood and nutritional security was also underlined by Dr. Das.
Shri Nag apprised the tribal fishers about the Pen Culture Intervention as a tool to raise the In-Situ fish seed in the Reservoir which will not only improve the Reservoir’s production; but, also reduce the production cost. It subsequently, will improve the fishers’ livelihood.
A total of 56 Tribal Beneficiaries participated in the event.
