The ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Nainital, Uttarakhand in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim organized the Awareness-cum-Training Programme on “High Value Trout Farming for Livelihood Security” under North-Eastern Hill activity today. The programme was organized at the Karjee-Mangnam Gram Panchayat Bhawan, West Sikkim.
The Chief Guest, Shri Tendup Lepcha, Vice-President, Gram Panchayat, Karjee Village, West Sikkim underlined the important role that the Trout Farming could play in enhancing the livelihood of the local inhabitants. Shri Lepcha also urged for exploring the possibilities of Trout Farming in the region.
Shri Duchen Lepcha, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim highlighted the various Government Schemes available under the PMMSY for the farmers’ benefits.
Smt. Tikamaya Mangar and Shri Ameho Lepcha, Gram Panchayat Members also graced the event.
A total of 31 Farmers participated in the programme.
