A Work Plan between Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) was signed here today. This work plan is in pursuance with the MoU between both the organizations signed in 2004. Dr. S. Ayyappan, Director General, ICAR and Dr. Jimmy Smith, Director General, ILRI signed the Work Plan which will be effective till December 2018.
On this occasion, Dr. Ayyappan said that livestock development is an important agenda in South Asian region of the world and that both ICAR and ILRI should work in a synergistic manner to achieve the objectives set forth in the Work Plan. He also said that concerns of small holding farmers and landless farmers dependent on livestock should be addressed in right earnest. He also flagged the issue of enhancing the productivity of livestock sector and opined that many of the success stories in Indian context could also be applied to African nations.
Dr. Smith hoped that the new work plan will bring scientists from both the organizations together and will enable to share their experiences for the benefit of scientific advancement in livestock sector.
Dr. K.M.L. Pathak, DDG (Animal Science) hoped that this Work Plan will develop a new synergy between ICAR and ILRI.
Senior officials of ICAR and ILRI were present on the occasion.
