National Training Programme on “Advances in Weed Management for Sustainable Agriculture” organized

13 - 18 December, 2021, Jabalpur

The ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh in association with the Indian Society of Weed Science jointly organized a 6-day Virtual National Training Programme on “Advances in Weed Management for Sustainable Agriculture” from 13th to 18th December, 2021.

Inaugurating the programme, Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (Agronomy, Agroforestry & Climate Change), ICAR emphasized on the importance of Weed Management in the field crops, horticultural crops and non-crop areas. The developing and demonstration of the location-specific Weed Management Technologies to get sustainable crop production was also suggested by Dr. Bhaskar.

In his valedictory address, Dr. R.M. Kathiresan, Vice-Chancellor, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu stressed on developing the need-based collaborative projects for external funding with DST, DBT and Biodiversity Authority, etc., on invasive weeds management & utilization and climate-change induced weed risk assessment.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur highlighted the importance of weed ecology and biology to understand the behavior of weeds under the various agro-ecosystems.

Dr. Sushil Kumar, Principal Scientist & President, ISWS shared his experience about the Weed Management in the non-crop area including aquatic and invasive weeds.

Around 314 participants participated in the programme.
