On the auspicious occasion of the 86th Foundation day of ICAR, Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG, Ranchi) organized a workshop on “Lac Production and Development” sponsored by the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand. Dr. R Ramani, Director, IINRG, Ranchi, Deputy Director, Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand, Head, Transfer of Technology Division and Head, Lac Production Division inaugurated the function by lighting of the lamp. The programme began with the ICAR Geet.
Dr. R Ramani, Director, IINRG, Ranchi, in his welcome address briefed about the journey and achievements of ICAR. He informed that in last 86 years productivity of food grains, milk, poultry, fishery and horticultural crops have increased several folds and thus, India has achieved self reliance in most of the commodities and has reached top position in the world also. He also informed about the vast ICAR network consisting of 99 research institutes, Deemed Universities, Institutions, National Bureaus, Directorates/Project Directorates, National Research Centres, State agricultural universities and 637 Krishi Vigyan Kendras for research and extension to address the various commodities and region specific research and extension activities. He also informed for the new KVK established recently at Torpa, Khunti (Jharkhand) under the administrative control of IINRG Ranchi.
Dr. Prabir Chakravorty, A.O., Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand, presented the introductory report on the activities under the Department. During the inaugural session, a documentry film of ICAR "Drivers of Change" was screened which was appreciated by the particpants. On this occasion about 150 participants including farmers (50), state government officials (20), scientists and staff members of IINRG and IIAB, Ranchi (80) attented the inaugral session. After the inaugural session visit of the instiute musem and research farm was carried out for the participants.
During technical sessions four topics covering the aspects on Lac cultivation, Production, processing, development & Livelihood opportunity from lac production in Jharkhand were presented by experts and discussed with the trainees. Feedback was also recorded during the Valedictory session.
