Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai Organized a two-day (10-11th June, 2014) Training-cum-Workshop on ‘Aquaculture and Fisheries Management for Food and Nutritional Security in Arunachal Pradesh’ in collaboration with State Fisheries Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Mrs. Karya Bagang, Parliamentary Secretary (Fisheries), Government of Arunachal Pradesh inaugurated the programme. Mr. Dani Salu, Secretary (Fisheries) Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Dr. W.S. Lakra, Director and Vice-Chancellor, CIFE, Mumbai were also present on the occasion.
The CIFE team led by Dr. W.S.Lakra had experts from genetics, health, aquaculture, nutrition and broodstock management. The programme was aimed to sensitize and impart knowledge on latest trends in aquaculture and fisheries management to officials and fish farmers of Arunachal Pradesh.
The vast aquatic resources of the state has a great potential to enhance its fish production provided the new and innovative technologies of fish farming and management strategies are adopted. The scientists of CIFE trained the farmers and state fisheries department officials on development and management of brood stock, health and nutrient management, development of ornamental fish feed and techniques for improvement of fish flesh quality.
Recommendations to increase the productivity in the region were also made during the workshop.
