Workshop on Research Prioritization and Reconciliation in Eastern India Organized

A workshop on Research Prioritization and Reconciliation in Eastern India was organized at ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna on 28th May, 2014. The workshop was organized to prioritize agricultural research for eastern India, strengthening inter institutional research collaboration and to avoid duplicity and   redundancy of research being conducted by different research institutes located in eastern India.

Dr B. P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR RCER, Patna chaired the workshop. He made a presentation on on-going researches and activities of the institute and research priorities in Eastern Region.  In his introductory remarks, Dr. Bhatt also suggested six major themes of relevance for which each participating institute provided inputs related to strengths and research gaps of the corresponding institute.

Dr. Santiago Lopez Ridaura, Farming Systems Modelling Specialist, CIMMYT made a presentation on ‘Prioritizing Farming Systems for Diverse Farm Typologies of Eastern India: Modeling Approaches’.

Dr. M.L Jat, Agronomist, CIMMYT–India suggested to develop Farming Systems Research Atlas of Eastern India. He also stressed upon convergence of researches generated by different research organizations and institutes in the region.

Dr. R.K Malik, Hub Manager, CSISA (CIMMYT), Bihar advocated for testing and branding of feasible technologies developed by different institutes.

Dr. V.P. Singh, Director (Research) Rajendra Agriculture University (RAU), Pusa, Samastipur emphasized upon the development of stress tolerance crop varieties. He suggested crop diversification with soybean and millets (especially ragi) during kharif season in case of deficit rainfall.

Earlier, Dr. A. Dey, Head, Division of Livestock and Fishery management, ICAR-RCER welcomed the delegates and briefed the gathering about the objectives of the workshop.    

Total 55 scientists from 19 ICAR institutes and its regional stations located in eastern region and CIMMYT-India participated in the programme.
