National Training programme on ‘Drought Mitigation and Management’ was conducted during 24-28th March, 2014 at Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur. National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi sponsored this training.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. A.T. Jayasheelan, General Manager, Regional Remote Sensing Centre, Jodhpur highlighted the use of space technologies for monitoring and early warning of drought.
In his address, Dr. M.M. Roy, Director, CAZRI, Jodhpur stressed the need for managing drought on a permanent basis for which CAZRI has appropriate technologies and practical experience.
Earlier, Dr. R.K. Bhatt, Head of Division at CAZRI welcomed the Chief Guest and participants.
Twenty five participants from different Institutions, Universities, KVKs and NGOs from Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan were benefitted by the programme. Subject matter specialists delivered lectures on drought, assessment, monitoring and declaration including mitigation measures relating to different natural resources, land uses and crops. Futuristic drought management in view of climate change, breeding for drought tolerance and ensuring livelihood were also highlighted. Participants were taken to field sites at CAZRI farm and soil and water conservation sites around Jodhpur.
Dr. K.J. Anandh Kumar from NIDM expressed happiness over successful completion of course.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Head of Division at CAZRI designed the course.
