A four weeks ‘Customised Training in Mariculture for Maldivian Officials’ started since 18th November 2013 at Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Kochin.
Mr. Jasimuddin Mohammad, Head, Regional Programmes Group, GIDD, Commonwealth Secretariat, London inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address he conveyed the greetings from Mr. Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary General, Commonwealth, London. Mr. Mohammad congratulated CMFRI in its stature as a premier fisheries institute in mariculture research in the world. He also highlighted the importance of capacity building and cooperation among the member countries for developing mariculture activities in the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Mohammad also released the ‘Course Manual’ on the occasion.
In his presidential address Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, CMFRI highlighted the achievements of the Institute and thanked to Commonwealth Authorities for identifying CMFRI to impart this training session.
Dr. G. Gopakumar, Head, Mariculture Division, CMFRI and Dr. A.R.T. Arasu, Head, Fish culture division, CIBA Chennai were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. P.C. Thomas, Scientist in Charge, HRD Cell, CMFRI welcomed the gathering.
Fifteen officials nominated by the Ministry of Fisheries, Maldives are getting hands on experience on the various mariculture technologies developed by CMFRI. 30 resource persons are handling the sessions at Kochi and Mandapam centres.
Dr. Imelda Joseph, Course Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
