Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) visited ICAR-ATARI, Zone-III, and today. In his interaction with the Scientists and the staff of ICAR-ATARI, Umiam; Dr. Mohapatra urged that the institute should reach to the farmers for solving farm related problems through technology demonstration and dissemination. He also emphasized on the preparation of ‘TECHNOLOGY BASKET’ of the validated technologies so as to increase the accessibility of technological options for the benefit of the SMSs of KVKs in the Northeast region in order to disseminate the technologies at a faster pace.
While interacting with scientists of ATARI, Zone III; ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam and NBPGR, Umiam center, he emphasized for working as team in missionary zeal so as to generate suitable technologies for the benefit of the farmers of Northeast India. He advised all the scientists to publish quality papers having high citation index. Initiatives should also be taken for transforming such published research findings into viable technology for its wider acceptance in the farmers’ field.
Dr. Mohapatra further stressed on need to conduct the evolution studies on various plant species in the context of climate change as Northeast of India is biodiversity hotspot which can be utilized for future crop improvement programmes to strengthen the hilly agriculture.
Shri. Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (DARE/ICAR) urged to ensure judicious use of funds and transparency in financial as well as other administrative matters.
