International Training Programme on “Tools & Techniques of Soil Resource Survey for Land Use Planning” concludes

The 12-days Short Term International Training Programme on “Tools & Techniques of Soil Resource Survey for Land Use Planning” organized by the ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), Nagpur concluded today. The programme sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India was organized from 2^nd to 13^th August, 2019.

The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function, Dr. M.S. Ladaniya, Director, ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur emphasized on soil health card’s role in managing the nutrient deficiencies in the soil-plant system.

Earlier, Dr. S.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP inaugurated the programme on 2^nd August 2019. Dr. addressed the various potentials and constraints of the natural resources in India and the African countries in climate changing scenario.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) appreciated the Bureau for conducting such training programmes for the International development of agriculture during the 25^th Regional Committee Meeting held on 9^th August, 2019 at Nagpur.

The trainees were acquainted with the modern tools and techniques of soil survey, soil correlation and classification, application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and remote sensing data, techniques for development of soil health card, etc.

The main objective of the training programme was to impart the trainee officers with the knowledge on advancements in soil survey programmes in India and their application in the African counties.

The 8 participants from 7 African countries - Malawi, Seychelles, Namibia, Comoros, Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia were imparted the comprehensive training to carry out the soil survey using the modern tools and technique of GIS and remote sensing for agricultural land use planning.

The trainee officers were felicitated with certificates during the occasion.
