NRC on Meat provided the expertise and facilitation

Meat and meat products production and marketing is a lucrative and profitable business enterprise. Sensing this opportunity an entrepreneur Mr. M. Narasimha Rao visited National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad to get the technology and knowhow of the meat product processing. Encouraged by the prospects in meat processing, the entrepreneur established a firm ‘Mellow Foods’. Technology was transferred and the entrepreneur was trained under National Agricultural Innovation Project, ‘Value chain for clean meat production from sheep’ and Emeritus Scientist project on ‘Developing processing technologies and entrepreneurial adoption’. Mellow foods signed the Agreement for licensing of knowhow for meat product processing on 31st July 2010.
Group of six meat industry youth who were trained under ‘Participatory training program’ in meat processing by the Centre were employed by the entrepreneur. Mellow foods will display the name of the Centre and NAIP on the product label. Meanwhile till his processing unit becomes completely functional, he proposed to use the pilot plant i.e. the meat product processing facility of the Centre for test production and marketing of fresh and processed meat products.
Entrepreneur signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the test marketing with the Centre. Entrepreneur was given training certificate and the test marketing products were launched on 06th September 2010 in presence of Dr. K. M. L. Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), ICAR. On the occasion, DDG (AS) lauded the effort of the Centre in popularizing the meat technologies. Mr. M. Narasimha Rao, CEO, Mellow Foods expressed satisfaction over the cooperation of the Centre and encouragement he got to venture in meat processing. Dr. N. Kondaiah, Director, National Research Centre on Meat narrated the prospects of the meat processing business and effort of the Centre in promoting entrepreneurship in the area.
