ICAR- National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bangalore organized a Scientist-Farmer Interface Meeting under the FARMER FIRST PROJECT on 15th March 2017.
Dr S Ayyappan, Prof. NABARD chair and former DG, ICAR, Chief Guest of the said alternate fodder crops such as the cactus along with integrated farming can prove to be insurance during draught periods and provide sustainable livelihood to farmers. In present situation where farmers are looking to alternated urban occupation for livelihood sustenance he urged the farmers to adopt technologies which can be easily adopted at low cost and user friendly way to increase productivity. He briefed about the MGMG and Skill India programs which are programmed to help double the farmer’s income in 3 years by not only providing knowledge but also providing hands on skill training and urged that the farmers take full advantage of these programs. He urged that farmers should come out of forceful agriculture and move towards a profitable sustainable willful farming system supported by integrated farming and technology transfer.
Prof. Veerabhadraiah, Former Director (R) was the guest of honour. He explained the comforts and discomforts of farmers in the area of integrated agriculture, animal rearing, fodder, etc., in general and in the current situation of drought in the entire state in particular.
Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR-NIANP briefed about the major achievements of the Institute. He appealed to farmers to put forth their problems in the fields of dairy calf management, diseases affecting cattle, ration balancing tools for dairy animals, weather complications, etc., and to interact with the scientists to get solutions. This enables to get their income double, as it is the desire of the Prime Minister to make the income of the farmers get doubled, he added.
