Pig rearing programme for Tribal Farmers

nrcyak-01-29092016.jpgICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, West Kemang in collaboration with Eastern Regional Station, ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani, organized one-day Pig rearing programme for Tribal Farmers of Yewang village, West Kameng District today.

The main objective of the programme was to brief the farmers about economic benefit of pig rearing and use of conventional and unconventional food stuff for profitable pig rearing under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav.

Dr. S. M. Deb, Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak elaborated the issues regarding economic development of tribal community, importance of pig rearing and impact of TSP.

Dr. T. K. Dutta, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-NDRI, ERS emphasized genesis and objectives of NEH component of ICAR-NDRI towards development of tribal community of North – Eastern States.

To promote profitable pig rearing, 30 farmers were trained to build pig housing system using local resources. Each farmer was provided with 5 piglets (4 female and 1 male) for breeding purpose, concentrate ration for proper growth of the animals, vitamin supplements required for proper maintenance of the animals and Tarpaulin for supplementing better housing system.
