Dr S Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR inaugurated the Administration Block and Farmers’ Hostel at Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Hirehalli, Tumkur near Bengaluru on Bengaluru-Mumbai Highway.
It is first additional KVK of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research in a same district. Dr Ayyappan also visited the farm and appreciated the efforts done by Krishi Vigyan Kendra for benefits of farmers and other stakeholders. Dr N K Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director General (Hort), Dr T P Rajendran, ADG (PP), Dr W S Dhillon, ADG (Hort), ICAR, Dr A S Sidhu, Director, IIHR, Dr S Prabhu Kumar, Zonal Project Director, Zone VIII, and senior scientists and officers were also present on the occasion. Dr L B Naik, Principal Scientist and Programme Coordinator of KVK, Hirehalli, Tumkur briefed about the on-going programme of the KVK.
DG visited and inspected 50 demonstrations establishment on the farm of the KVK. He appreciated the activities of the KVK, seed and planting material production, foliar nutrition spray, bio-pesticides, post harvest technology and demonstration of farm machinery. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hirehalli, Tumkur and National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Centre, Hebbal, Bengaluru did pilot study on land resource assessment of Durgada Nagernahalli, which is a NICRA adopted village in Karnataka.
