In Delhi, horticultural crops are grown on a limited scale. Fruits are grown in over 100 ha with a production of 1,000 tonnes. The vegetables are grown in 43,700 ha with a production of 6.27 lakh tonnes and productivity of 14.3 tonnes/ha. Flower crops are grown in 449 ha with a production of 25,007 tonnes. Important vegetables such as tomato, brinjal, chillies, okra, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot and raddish are grown both under open and protected conditions. Floriculture ventures have been initiated by amateur gardeners both under open (for gladiolus) and protected (for roses) conditions. Scope exits for increasing production of these crops by adopting following interventions:

Tomato

� Use of hybrids Pusa Sheetal, Pusa Sadabahar and Pusa Hybrid 1

� Integrated management of buck-eye rot and early blight

Brinjal

� Use of hybrid Pusa Bhairav

� Integrated management of insect pests

Cauliflower

� Use of hybrids Pusa Himjyoti and Pusa Meghna

� Application of boron and molybdenum for high yield, quality and shelf life

Ber

� Growing varieties Gola, Thar Savika, Seb and Mundia

� Use of Ziziphus nummularia as dwarfing rootstock

� Drip irrigation for increasing water use efficiency

Rose

� Growing varieties Pusa Urmil, Pusa Ranjan, Pusa Mohit, Raktima and Gaurav

� Organic mulching for moisture conservation and weed control

� Use of Rosa indica var. odorata as rootstock

Gladiolus

� Growing varieties Pusa Urmi, Pusa Jyotsna, Pusa Gulal, Pusa Urvashi and Pusa Shabnum

� Drip/ fertigation to increase nutrient and water use efficiency

Farm Tools and Equipment

Important tools, equipment and technologies for higher productivity in agriculture and post harvest processing are: zero-till drill, vegetable transplanter, greenhouse technology, vegetable washer, mechanized grain milling.
