Seminar on Integrating Agri-Horticultural & Allied Res. for Food & Nutritional Security in the Era of Global Climate Disruption

ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya organized National Seminar on "Integrating Agri-Horticultural and Allied Research for Food and Nutritional Security in the Era of Global Climate Disruption" during 4-6 march, 2016 at Imphal, Manipur.

Shri O. Ibobi Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur while inaugurating the seminar on 4th march 2016 said there is a need for the farmers to increase their agricultural and horticultural produce. He called upon the scientist in the state to find way to maximise productivity in the state. He asserted that, the relevant departments, research institutions, CAU and agencies ought to pay special attention to introduce the most scientific and sustainable methods of agriculture in the state.

In his presidential address, Dr. S.V. Ngachan Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region Umiam expressed the importance of integrating the various resources of the Himalayan ecosystem including human resources to yield sustainability in agriculture. He emphasized on  the importance of developing location specific technologies.

During the inaugural function, one high yielding rice variety RC Maniphou-13 developed by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre was also released by the Chief Guest.

Earlier,  Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre delivered welcome address.

Dr. H. Rahman, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function on 6the March 2016.  He said the recommendations made by the various sections of the seminar will become a foundation and roadmap for solving the Agricultural problems of North East Region.

Dr. K. K. Katoch, Vice Chancellor, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur and Guest of Honour, expressed the importance of conserving the natural resources by the adopting the conservation agriculture.

Dr. S. K. Mitra, Chairman, Tropical and Sub-tropical Fruits, International Society of Horticultural Sciences, Belgium and  Guest of Honour, expressed theneed of the control of post-harvest losses of food in the NE Region.

One Exhibition-cum-Farmers' Fair was also organized as part of the National Seminar and more than 500 farmers have participated in the event.

More than 400 delegates representing different organizations from different parts of the country participated in the seminar and presented their findings.
