ICAR-Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kasturbagram, Indore organized an online webinar to spread the awareness on “Rights and Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers act 2001" among the farming community. Farmers from all over the country participated in this programme and benefited from it.


Dr Dinesh Kumar Agrawal, Registrar General, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority, was the Guest Speaker. In his address, he said that farmers can register the traditional varieties as well as the variety developed by them so that their rights are protected. The PPV & FRA allows farmers to register their varieties at zero cost, he added. Dr. Agrawal informed that out of more than 17000 applications received, 11000 applications were for protection of the varieties developed by the farmers and around 200 farmers were protected by PPV & FRA.
