ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata organized an Interactive Workshop-cum-Capacity Development Programme on the ICAR-funded project Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) today. In this programme, the process of documenting entrepreneurship development was reviewed and discussed.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI Kolkata exhorted to extend the ARYA project in other KVKs of Zone V. He urged to popularize the cases of successful entrepreneurs through ICT, peer-reviewed publications and other means. He emphasised on diversifying the enterprises based on the changing need of the districts and popularizing the concept of One SMS Five Entrepreneurs. Apart from highlighting the success of ARYA project vis-à-vis percolation to other KVK districts, he underlined the need for detailed analysis to understand/find out the reasons behind the discontinuance of certain enterprises by the youth.
Dr. P. P. Pal, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer, briefed about the inception and objectives of ARYA project and described the horizontally spread of the benefit among non-beneficiaries. He emphasized external fund support and proper marketing to enable the rural youth to go for effective entrepreneurship development as well as employment generation.
ARYA implementing KVKs presented the process documentation, achievements of the project and future plan of action to make it a youth-friendly platform towards entrepreneurship development. The scientists monitoring ARYA project in the KVKs also shared their experiences. The participants of non-ARYA KVKs put forth their views regarding the suitability of enterprises in their districts.
Along with the 4 ARYA implementing KVKs (Hooghly, Nimpith, Purulia and Uttar Dinajpur), 5 Non-ARYA KVKs (Narendrapur, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Nadia and Burdwan) also participated in the workshop.
More than 50 participants including the Senior Scientists and Head, Nodal Subject Matter Specialists, Senior Research Fellows, Young Professionals and all the technical as well as scientific staff of ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata were present in the workshop.
