In celebration of World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2025, ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, conducted a workshop titled “Sensitization of World Intellectual Property Rights” today, organized through the Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU). The theme for this year was “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP.”

Chief Guest Shri Ajeet Kumar, Assistant Controller, Patents and Designs, DPIIT, delivered an insightful keynote titled “Innovative Minds to IP Rights: Create and Protect,” underscoring the vital role of intellectual property in driving innovation and economic growth. He discussed the significance of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs, and emphasized the need for early IP awareness among researchers. Shri Kumar also highlighted government support for IP filing and commercialization, particularly for public institutions, and shared real-life examples demonstrating how effective IP management facilitates technology transfer and societal impact.
Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, highlighted the institute’s dedication to innovation and scientific excellence. He emphasized that in today’s dynamic research landscape, intellectual property rights are vital for protecting innovations and enhancing their impact. Promoting an IP-aware culture, he noted, not only supports scientists and institutions but also ensures that research translates into socioeconomic benefits for farmers and society.
The workshop attracted around 60 participants, including scientists, researchers, and students, and concluded with enriching discussions on enhancing IP awareness within the research community.
