Winter school participants explore advanced agricultural research and hands-on training on nanoparticle synthesis

22nd January – 11th February 2025, Raipur

Participants of the winter school at ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, representing various states, visited the facilities at VNR Seeds, Raipur, including the Research and Development, instrumentation, product processing, storage, and quality control laboratories.

Participants also visited Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya to explore its state-of-the-art research and innovation facilities. Trainees explored the Dr R.H. Richharia Central Instrumentation Facility, which includes advanced equipment related to molecular biology, tissue culture, DNA testing, and germplasm storage.

The highlight of the visit was the mushroom production unit, where the technical team provided insights into cultivation practices, packaging, processing, and the application of innovative technologies. Additionally, participants toured the Biotechnology incubation center, which supports startup companies in commercializing agricultural products.

Trainee participants also visited Amity University, Raipur, for an in-depth hands-on training session on nanoparticle synthesis. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to cutting-edge nanotechnology techniques and their applications in agriculture and biotechnology. A key highlight was the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using green tea extract and silver nitrate, allowing the participants to observe and experiment with eco-friendly nanomaterial production.

Dr Pankaj Sharma, Joint Director and Course Director, Winter School, provided an overview of the ICAR-sponsored 21-day training programme (22nd January - 11th February 2025). The programme is focused on "Trends in Integrated Disease Management using Nanotechnology: Challenges and the Way Forward," with 23 trainees taking part.
