ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune, in collaboration with the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI), Govt of India, contributed to a training programme titled 'Grading and Marking of Fruits and Vegetables under Agmark for Exports to European Union Countries at Navi Mumbai today for various food testing laboratories.
Based on the consistent efforts of Dr Kaushik Banerjee, Director and Dr N.A. Deshmukh, Sr. Scientist, the TSS and TSS-acidity ratio, the two important quality parameters to determine the harvest stage and quality have been revised by the DMI through a Gazette Notification of the Govt of India. This work involved extensive multi-location sample analysis for TSS and acidity, and TSS-acidity ratio, and also assessment of export sample data over the past two years. This has significantly facilitated the export of early-harvest grapes in 2024 and 2025.
Dr. N.A. Deshmukh briefed the role of the National Referral Laboratory of ICAR-NRCG in the residue monitoring plan sensitized the participants about the revised maturity standards for early season export grapes from the country and mentioned how the Agmark standard is helping Indian grape export.
