ICAR- Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology, Ludhiana, organised Zonal Sports Tournament (North Zone) 2023 at the Sports Complex, PAU Ludhianaa today. The event is scheduled to run from 17th – 20th, 2024.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural session, Shri. Pravesh Chander Sharma, a distinguished sportsman and Gold medallist of the Commonwealth Games, emphasised the significance of discipline in sports and urged participants to inspire the younger generation to embrace sports in their lives.
Shri. Amanveer Singh, sportsman representing India was the Guest of Honour during the valedictory session.
Padmashri Kartar Singh, IPS, sportsman and gold medallist of the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and recipient of most Indian sports awards and international recognition was also present during the valedictory session.
Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, highlighted the unity among ICAR institutes despite their diversity.
Dr. H. S. Jat, Director, ICAR-IIMR Ludhiana, emphasised that the spirit of participation itself holds paramount importance, overshadowing the outcome of winning or losing.
Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, encouraged the players to give their best in their respective events.
Various sports were played among the ICAR institutes during the tournament. The matches aimed to promote healthy competition, unity, and sportsmanship among employees of the institutes, within the organization.
A total of 807 participants representing seven states from 24 institutes attended the tournament.
