The ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru, Karnataka in collaboration with the “National One Health Programme for Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases (NOHPPCZD)” under the aegis of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi organized a Webinar to create awareness on prevention and control of Zoonotic Diseases among the different stakeholders today.
In his address, Dr. B.R. Shome, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI, Bengaluru stressed that the key emphasis is needed for effectively tackling the Zoonoses Diseases in One Health approach.
Dr. Tushar Nale, Assistant Director, DZDP, NCDC, New Delhi highlighted the importance of observing the World Zoonoses Day.
In his keynote address, Dr. Subeer S. Majumdar, Former Director & Distinguished Professor, National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad deliberated on “Research Initiatives in One Health in India: Current Status and Way Forward”. He outlined the benefits of multi-sectoral collaboration in tackling the Zoonotic Diseases. The inclusion of one course on understanding the Zoonotic Diseases in medicine curriculum was one of the highlights of his address.
Prof. S. Nagarathna, Head, Department of Neuro-microbiology, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, Karnataka apprised the participants about the Neurological Disorders Related to Zoonotic Diseases.
Dr. Prejit Nambiar, Officer-In-Charge, Centre for One Health Education, Advocacy, Research and Training (COHEART), KVASU, Pookode, Kerala delivered a Lecture on “Kyasanur Forest Disease: Learnings from the Outbreak”. He underlined the status of KFD in India and shared the experience of the KFD outbreak in Kerala.
The Institute also held a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Awareness on Zoonotic Diseases” (focus on Rabies, Brucellosis, Toxoplasmosis, Cysticercosis, Echinococcosis, JE, Plague, Leptospirosis, Scrub typhus, KFD, Trypanosomosis).
More than 100 participants attended the Webinar.
The Webinar was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
