ICAR-IIFSR starts Technology Transfer Programme on Mushroom

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh has started the Technology Transfer Programme (TTP) on Mushroom entitled “Transfer of Mushroom Production Technology as an entrepreneurship option to farmers, youths and unemployed workers under COVID-19 Pandemic” today.
In his address, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying appreciated the ICAR-IIFSR’s efforts for starting the “TTP on Mushroom” for promoting self-employment in the rural areas. The Minister stressed on the knowledge of proper marketing skills so that producers should get a reasonable market price for their produce. He also emphasized that the “One Country, One Market Scheme” recently started by the Government of India will be helpful for increasing the market access to farmers and getting proper price of their produce.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Vijaypal Singh Tomar, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha accentuated on the integrated farming systems with mushroom and other enterprises as the prompt solution for solving the problems of the land fragmentation and other problems being faced by the small and marginal farmers.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Rakesh Tikait, Spokesperson, Bhartiya Kisan Union stressed on increasing the market accessibility to farmers for enhancing their income.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (Agronomy, Agroforestry and Climate Change), Natural Resource Management Division, ICAR stressed on secondary agriculture business like Mushroom production and processing and value-addition of farm produce through the formation of the Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations for promoting self-employment in the rural areas.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Ashok Baliyan, Pageant Welfare Association also advocated for assuring market accessibility and minimum support price to enhance the farmers’ income.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. A.S. Panwar, Director, ICAR-IIFSR, Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh & Programme Director, TTP briefed about the various programmes and schemes including Mushroom started by the Institute for enhancing the farmers’ livelihood and generating self-employment at the village level during the prevalence of the COVID-19 Pandemic situation.
The main aim of the programme is to equip the youths, farmers and persons affected with the reverse migration due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 Pandemic with technical knowhow of Mushroom production to generate self-employment.
A total of 46 participants from 7 states of the country virtually participated in the programme.
