ICAR-CCARI, Goa organizes “Tree Planting Campaign” @Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav

The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa organized a “Tree Planting Campaign” on the occasion of the “93rd ICAR Foundation Day” today.

In his address, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa highlighted the importance of planting the trees from the environmental and ecological sustainability point of view and for improving the farmer’s livelihood. The Director outlined the launching of the Sub-Mission on Agroforestry (SMAF) in 2016-17 to encourage and expand the tree plantation on farm lands with the motto of “Har Med Par Ped” along with the crops / cropping system.

About 50 seedlings of the Teak were provided by the Department of Forest, Government of Goa, Goa.

Around 200 trees of the different species including Teak were planted on the bunds of the C Block of the Institute.

The main objective is to improve the productivity, ecosystem services and improve the livelihood security of farmers.

A total of 50 participants actively participated in the Tree Plantation Campaign.

The programme was organized as a part of “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
