Hands On Training on “Genetic Engineering of Pulses and Beyond”

16th – 18th November 2022, Kanpur

ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur organized a three-day hands-on training on “Genetic Engineering of Pulses and Beyond” from 16-18 November, 2022 for post graduate students and early career researchers.

1

The Training was sponsored by the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, New Delhi to address basics of plant genetic engineering including recombinant DNA technology, genomic DNA and plasmid DNA isolation, transformation, restriction digestion, PCR analyses, Bioinformatics software and genome editing. The Training was attended by 21 candidates from Universities and Institutes from Kanpur and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Pant Nagar (Uttarakhand).

Dr Ramcharan Bhattacharya, Principal Scientist, ICAR-National Institute of Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi, Chief Guest, delivered a lead talk on the topic “Genetic Engineering of Plants” with special emphasis on the fundamentals and various applied aspects of genetic engineering and gene editing in plants

Dr. Bansa Singh, Director, IIPR presented an overview of pulses research with emphasis on  use of  modern technologies to achieve  pulse  improvement for sustaining production..

Dr Aruna Tyagi, Head & Principal Scientist, Division of Biochemistry, IARI, New Delhi was the Chief guest and Dr Sanjeev Gupta, ADG (Oilseeds and Pulses), ICAR, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour of the valedictory session of the Program

Dr Gupta emphasized the use of technologies in pulses and exhorted the need to target the traits unidentified in pulses gene pool.
