Field Day on “Fodder cultivation at Regional Station Minicoy, Lakshadweep

Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR- Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, conducted “Field Day on Fodder cultivation (CO 5) under Coconut Plantation” for the tribal farmers of Minicoy today.

Speaking on the inaugural occasion, the Chief Guest Dr. Shrikant R. Tapdiya, the Deputy Collector of Minicoy appreciated the technology, CO 5 fodder cultivation to enhance income of livestock farmer.

A total of 12 participants from 5 villages i.e. Rammedu, Funhilol, Boduathiri, Aloodi, and South Bandaram attended the field day in which they were exposed to fodder (CO 5 variety) cultivation under coconut plantation at the institute farm.

The scientific team of ICAR-CIARI interacted with the farmers and impressed upon the Package of Practices for fodder cultivation under coconut plantation, different methods of fodder production and importance of balanced nutrition for livestock.

On the occasion, total of 1200 cuttings of 100 each of Hybrid Napier (CO 5) were provided to the farmers for growing in their field.

The programme conducted under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
