Farmers’ Training on ‘Improved Cultivation Techniques of Spices and Its Post-Harvest Management’

The ICAR Research Complex for North eastern Hill Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib, had organized three days Farmers’ training on “Improved cultivation techniques of Spices and its post-harvest management” at ICAR, Kolasib .

The Head of Regional Centre, Dr. S. Doley, ICAR Mizoram Centre, delivered a brief inaugural address highlighting the importance of spices in Mizoram, scientific cultivation and processing as key aspects for higher income and economic stability.

Lectures on scientific cultivation of major spices like ginger and turmeric and their processing into products were taken up with demonstration and hands-on practice. Field day was organized to demonstrate farm technologies and the use of Automated Turmeric Grinder, which was given to Turmeric Group, Thingdawl, Kolasib.

The turmeric varieties were provided to the farmers for large-scale cultivation in Mizoram.

A total of thirty-seven farmers participated in the training from Kolasib and Lunglei districts (Aspirational district) of Mizoram.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Jeetendra Kumar Soni, Scientist (Agronomy), PI-AICRP Spices and supported by all the Scientists and staff of the Centre and concluded a grand success by motivated farmers.
