World Environment Day Celebrated at ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod with Tree Plantation Drive

ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod, in collaboration with the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, observed World Environment Day with a tree plantation drive focused on the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution." The event reaffirmed the institute's commitment to environmental sustainability through active participation by dignitaries, staff, and farmers.

The Chief Guest, Smt. Baby Balakrishnan, President, District Panchayat, commended ICAR-CPCRI's impactful research and its contribution to enhancing productivity at the grassroots level through Krishi Bhavans and farming communities.

Dr. K. Balachandra Hebbar, Director, ICAR-CPCRI, highlighted the institute's recognition as a "Green Campus" by Haritha Mission, Government of Kerala. He emphasized the growing threat of plastic waste, especially in agriculture, and the need for proper disposal practices to prevent environmental degradation. He also reiterated the institute’s focus on promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices and building climate-resilient farming systems.

A highlight of the event was the felicitation of the institute’s sanitation workers, who were honored for their vital role in maintaining campus cleanliness and hygiene.

The celebration concluded with enthusiastic participation from scientists and staff, underscoring the institute’s ongoing efforts in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable agricultural development.
