Webinar on “Balanced use of Fertilizers and Vermi-composting” organized

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa and ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa jointly organized a Webinar on “Balanced use of Fertilizers and Vermi-composting” today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State, Ministry of AYUSH & Defence highlighted about how soil health and human health are strongly interlinked that is also one of the important aspects of AYUSH. He stressed on the soil fertility related constraints of Goa and the need to correct it through scientific approaches. He urged the farmers to do soil testing and ensure a balanced use of fertilizers through soil test based fertilizer application.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa emphasized on the importance of balanced use of chemical fertilizers for improving the agricultural production, productivity and farmers’ income. Dr. Kumar stressed on the need to use the fertilizer sources of nutrients owing to the poor fertility of soils resulting in poor crop productivity. He also outlined the features of Information Technology Tool developed by the Institute - “Fertilizer Calculator Goa” that is a dedicated Mobile Application for the farmers of the State and the adjoining coastal region to assist in decision making of smarter and balanced use of fertilizers.

The programme was aimed at making the farmers aware about the balanced use of the fertilizers and practicing of vermi-composting.

Around 75 participants comprising of farmers, scientist, staff members of KVK and other stakeholders participated in the programme.

The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
