ICAR-NAARM Wins “Excellence in Training” Award

The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research & Management, Hyderabad won the prestigious “Excellence in Training” award for its Learning and Capacity Building (L&CB) Initiative under National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) of ICAR. The L&CB project was successful in enhancing adaptive and generative capacity in NARS for innovation and change management by sensitization, training and post-training follow up programmes.

The award was presented during the closing session of the First National Symposium on Excellence in Training organized by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India on 12 April 2015.

The NAARM team led by Drs D. Rama Rao, Director, NH Rao, Principal Scientist and CPI, L&CB sub-project, Bharat S. Sontakki, Principal Scientist and Shri P Vijender Reddy, Training Officer received the coveted award.

L&CB was a first of kind effort in management of training in multi-pronged and multi-institutional partnership mode. ICAR-NAARM was the Consortium Lead of this initiative while NIRD, Hyderabad; MANAGE, Hyderabad and IIM, Lucknow were the partner institutions. Over 3000 NARS officials were trained through 136 national training programmes and another 900 were trained internationally.

The L&CB efforts laid foundation to sustainable changes in organizational reforms, innovation management, good governance, decentralization and market-led technology development through cutting edge research in frontier areas. Independent assessment of the trainings by IFPRI and PwC showed sustainable gains of capacity development with impact factors in the range 1.2 to 11.3 in different subject areas.

The remarkable aspect of the initiative is success in internalizing the major reforms and processes like helpdesk, e-learning, online journals, open access philosophy, M&E and online tools for training and research management are being used in various XII Plan initiatives in ICAR.
