ICAR-Shri Siddhagiri Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Kaneri, Kolhapur organized “Wild Vegetables Mahotsav” today at KVK Kaneri, Kolhapur in collaboaration with State Department of agriculture, Kolhapur, ATMA, Kolhapur, MPKV, Rahuri and Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The Chief Guest, Shri Sanjay Singh Chavan, CEO, Zila Parishad, Kolhapur emphasized on the mass awareness on wild vegetables and importance of nutrient qualities of wild vegetables. Shri Chavan mentioned about different wild vegetables such as, Amaranthus, Suran, , ficus, Gulvel, Rumex, Portulaca etc. He also urged the farmers to conservation, identification and documentation of wild vegetables in the region.
Dr. U.B. Hole, Associate Dean, College of Agriculture, Kolhapur urges the farmers and researchers to build a strong extension linkage for spread of important information on wild vegetables. He stresses on building genome bank of wild vegetables.
Dr. Ravindra Singh, Head, Shri Siddhagiri Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Kaneri, Kolhapur stresses on creating database on wild vegetables and linking the consumers for selling these wild vegetables by direct sell and Linking to FPOs.
Shri Jalinder Pangare, DSAO Kolhaour along with Shri Umesh Patil, Pricipal, RAMETI, Kolhapur and Shri Bhimashankar Patil, ADO, Zila Parishad, Kolhapur were present.
Around 168 farmers and farm women participated in the event.
