ICAR–Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune, organized a farmer awareness and field interaction programme under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Nimdari village, Junnar taluka, Pune district, Maharashtra. A team of scientists from ICAR–DFR visited local flower growers cultivating commercial flower crops, including rose and chrysanthemum, and interacted with farmers to understand their field-level challenges and promote sustainable floricultural practices.

During the programme, the scientists visited a chrysanthemum nursery and interacted with the nursery grower on the production of quality planting material and the adoption of good nursery management practices. The team also interacted with 26 farmers and provided technical guidance on improving soil health, optimizing nutrient use and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
The programme highlighted the use of alternative nutrient sources, including biofertilizers, vermicompost and organic manures, to improve soil fertility and support sustainable crop production. A practical demonstration of natural farming practices, including the preparation and use of Jeevamrit and Ghanjeevamrit, along with mulching techniques, was conducted to familiarize farmers with approaches for improving soil health and conserving soil moisture.

The scientists also emphasized the role of biocontrol agents, such as Trichoderma and Pseudomonas, and neem-based formulations in the eco-friendly management of pests and diseases. The importance of integrated nutrient management, efficient water use and crop residue management was further highlighted as part of a holistic approach to sustainable floriculture.
