As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR–Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune, organized a farmer awareness programme at Kusur village, Junnar taluka, Pune district, Maharashtra, to promote soil rejuvenation, balanced nutrient management and sustainable agricultural practices for enhancing crop productivity while maintaining long-term soil health.

Considering the nutrient requirements of these crops, the programme emphasized the importance of maintaining soil fertility and adopting efficient, sustainable crop management practices. Scientists from ICAR–DFR sensitized farmers to the importance of balanced fertilizer application based on crop requirements and soil health, regular incorporation of organic matter, green manuring and other soil rejuvenation practices.

The discussions highlighted how improved soil organic matter, balanced nutrient availability and sustainable resource management can support healthy crop growth, enhance productivity and contribute to the long-term profitability of floriculture.

The programme was attended by 30 farmers engaged in the cultivation of chrysanthemum, tuberose and marigold, which are important commercial flower crops in the region.
