ICAR and BIS inks MoU for Standardization & Conformity Assessment Collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 11 June 2025 between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the NASC Complex, ICAR, New Delhi. The MoU aims to foster collaboration in the areas of standardization and conformity assessment, with a focus on mutual benefit, equality, and reciprocity.

Dr. S. N. Jha, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering), ICAR, and Shri Sanjay Pant, Scientist-G and Deputy Director General (Standardization-II), BIS, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), along with other senior officials from both ICAR and BIS.

Under the agreement, ICAR and BIS will work together to participate in standardization activities at both national and international levels through BIS technical committees. ICAR will also undertake research and development projects related to standardization and conformity assessment, with support from BIS. In turn, BIS will provide infrastructure assistance for ICAR's R&D initiatives that are relevant to standardization goals.

In addition, both organizations will jointly organize seminars, conferences, workshops, symposia, and lectures to promote awareness and knowledge-sharing on issues related to standardization and conformity assessment. The MoU will remain in effect for a period of five years and is expected to strengthen the collaboration between scientific research and standardization frameworks in the country.
