A delegation from 12 countries visits ICAR-IARI

The participants of the 81st Know India Programme, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, including 29 delegates from 12 countries, visited ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, here today.

Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, briefed about the country’s efforts to transform from a food deficit to a food surplus nation. He highlighted the contributions of ICAR in general and IARI in particular. Dr Rao also spoke about the current and future challenges in the agricultural sector and the ongoing efforts to address them.

Dr Viswanathan C., Joint Director (Research), ICAR-IARI highlighted the various varietal and non-varietal technologies developed by the institute. 

The delegates discussed topics such as the status of GM varieties, the impact of AI and precision farming on unequal technology access, and the health implications of widespread herbicide use with School Coordinators. The delegation also visited the National Phytotron, Plant Phenomics Facility, Integrated Farming System Model, and the Center for Protected Cultivation Technology.
