Agriculture Reaches New Heights: Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Begins in World’s Highest Village

31 May 2025, Ludhiana

Agriculture scaled new heights as the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lahaul Spiti-II, Tabo, launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan from the world’s highest motorable village, Komic, perched at a breathtaking altitude of 4,587 meters above sea level. This historic initiative marks a bold stride toward inclusive agricultural transformation in one of the most remote and ecologically fragile regions of the country.

The campaign, spearheaded by YSPUHF, Solan and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana, is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s nationwide movement to empower farmers with scientific knowledge, access to government schemes, and a voice in shaping future agri-innovations.

The Abhiyan was inaugurated in the majestic village of Komic by Ms. Shikha Simtia, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Spiti Valley. She highlighted the urgency of adopting sustainable agricultural practices to safeguard the region’s delicate environment. Ms. Simtia, urged the local governance bodies to unite with KVKs to ensure the success of this transformative campaign.

Lending local leadership support, Shri Chhering Paldan, Pradhan, Langza Panchayat, pledged full cooperation and urged farmers to embrace new-age technologies for better productivity and resilience.

Farmers participated in interactive discussions on improved cultivation methods, crop diversification suited to high-altitude conditions, soil testing, natural farming techniques, and water-efficient irrigation. Participants also gained insights into a variety of Central and State-supported agricultural schemes tailored to uplift marginal farmers in mountainous terrains.

Taking the mission further, the KVK team reached Tashigang, famously known as the world’s highest polling station, to extend the awareness drive. Here, they engaged farmers in focused conversations on challenges related to pea and barley cultivation two staple crops of the region. The scientists offered practical, locally-adapted solutions and promised to incorporate farmer feedback into research and extension services moving forward.

This inspiring campaign by KVK Tabo is not just a scientific outreach it's a powerful statement of inclusion. It reflects the unwavering commitment to ensuring that even the most remote communities of India receive access to innovation, government support, and a platform to voice their needs. As the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan climbs new heights, it reaffirms the nation’s vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready agricultural ecosystem one village at a time.
