Dr. A.K. Nayak, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR, visited the ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, from 27 to 29 October 2025. This was his maiden visit to the institute, during which he undertook an extensive review of ongoing research and developmental activities across multiple disciplines, including Natural Resource Management, Crop Science, Horticulture, Animal and Fisheries Science, and Agro-ecotourism.

During his visit, Dr. Nayak thoroughly inspected the institute’s experimental farms, field trials, and research facilities. He provided insightful suggestions to strengthen ongoing projects, emphasizing a sustainable and systems-based approach to coastal ecosystem management. He urged scientists to focus not only on research outputs but also on measurable outcomes and long-term impacts, promoting interdisciplinary convergence and innovation across research domains.
Dr. Nayak also visited both the lowland and upland ecosystems of the institute’s farms, advising a gradual transition from traditional practices to modern, high-throughput scientific techniques. He underscored the importance of fostering collaboration among coastal research institutions and scientists, to accelerate progress in addressing region-specific challenges related to soil, water, and biodiversity management.
Commending the institute’s multi-sectoral research initiatives, Dr. Nayak appreciated the dedication and achievements of the ICAR–CCARI team in advancing coastal agriculture. He assured continued support from ICAR in enhancing the institute’s infrastructure, facilities, and resource base to further strengthen its research and outreach capabilities.
During an interactive session with the staff and project teams, Dr. Nayak engaged in open discussions, listening to their perspectives and sharing ICAR’s broader expectations for scientific institutions in contributing to national priorities.

Earlier, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR–CCARI, presented an overview of the institute’s key accomplishments in research, extension, technology development, varietal release, and collaborations. He highlighted the institute’s progress in developing improved varieties, livestock breeds, and innovative technologies, as well as its success in securing intellectual property rights despite resource limitations. Dr. Kumar reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to aligning its research agenda with the Government of India’s flagship programs and contributing to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’.
