ICAR–IGFRI Celebrates 64th Foundation Day

ICAR–Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, celebrated its 64th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm today. The event was chaired by Dr. Devendra Kumar Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

In his address, Dr. Yadava extended his best wishes on the Foundation Day and commended ICAR-IGFRI’s multifaceted achievements in forage science, particularly in crop improvement, production practices, and grassland management, contributing to bridging the gap between fodder demand and supply. He also urged scientists to focus future research on developing climate-resilient technologies and farmer-oriented decision-support systems to strengthen sustainable livestock production.

Dr. K. Ramesh (IFS), Chief Conservator of Forests, Gujarat Forest Department, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Pankaj Kaushal, Director, ICAR–IGFRI, presided over the programme.

The Dr. P. M. Dabadghao Memorial Lecture on ‘Unique Grassland Management’ was delivered by Dr. K. Ramesh, who emphasized the significance of sustainable grassland management in enhancing natural resource quality, biodiversity, and ecological balance. He shared successful field experiences and underlined the vital role of grasslands in improving environmental resilience.

In his welcome address, Dr. Pankaj Kaushal presented an overview of the institute’s progress and accomplishments during the past year, highlighting advancements in forage crop varietal development, production technologies, mechanization, grassland development, and seed production.

The celebration commenced with a tree plantation drive, symbolizing ICAR-IGFRI’s commitment to environmental stewardship. This was followed by a Scientific Exhibition-cum-Kisan Mela at the Technology Demonstration Park, showcasing the institute’s technological innovations and research achievements.

On the occasion, dignitaries released several publications and felicitated awardees under various categories, including Progressive Farmer and Entrepreneur, Best Division, Best Team, Technology Developer, and Best Scientist–Technical–Administrative Staff.

The 64th Foundation Day celebration reaffirmed ICAR–IGFRI’s unwavering commitment to research excellence, innovation, and sustainable forage resource development in support of India’s livestock sector.
