The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized a National Campaign on “Climate-Resilient Inland Fisheries and Promotion of Climate-Resilient Fish Species in Chand Wetland, West Bengal” at the Chand Wetland, Tehatta, Nadia, West Bengal today.

Shri Tapas Saha, MLA, Tehatta, Nadia, West Bengal applauded the Institute’s initiative for development of the SC Community through the Climate Smart Fisheries.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Principal Investigator, NICRA & HoD, Reservoir and Wetland Fisheries Division, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore highlighted the various issues and innovative adaptation strategies for managing the fisheries of the Floodplain Wetland in the context of climate change. He also stressed on the need for the Wetland’s conservation.

The Campaign was aimed at creating the public awareness on the Climate Smart Fisheries Management of Wetlands in the changing climate scenario under the NICRA Project.

A total of 45 Fishers of Chand Wetland participated in the Campaign.
