Training programme for citrus farmers of Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh

6th-7th June 2024, Nagpur

A 2-day training programme was organized by ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, on 6th-7th June 2024 in the institute for citrus growers of Agar Malwa district, Madhya Pradesh. The training programme was organised under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority-sponsored project ‘Capacity Development Programme on Adoption of Good Agriculture Practices for Citrus Farmers”.

The Chief Guest, Shri. Ajit Kumar Saxena, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, MOIL, Nagpur urged the trainees to follow the ‘learning from each other’ method during the programme. He also proposed to collaborate with ICAR-CCRI in restoring wastelands after mining with a tress of acid lime (nimbu).

The Guest of Honour, Smt. Poonam Kapoor, Regional Head (APEDA), Bhopal and Chattisgarh, briefed about the APEDA schemes for citrus exporters.

Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur briefed about the overall situation of the citrus industry in India to trainee farmers and highlighted the importance of selection of land, rootstock, and planting materials for citrus cultivation. Dr. Ghosh encouraged the farmers to adopt a scientific package of practices for citrus cultivation and procure planting materials only from certified nurseries.

The technical sessions comprised of theoretical lectures and demonstrations by scientists and technical staff of ICAR-CCRI on various important aspects of citrus cultivation. An exposure visit of the trainee farmers was also conducted to the orchards of commercial and progressive citrus growers.

A total of 21 trainees participated in the programme.
