Training-cum-workshop for Agricultural Engineering experts of ICAR-KVKs

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur, organised a training-cum-workshop for the Agricultural Engineering experts of ICAR-KVKs at ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal, on 6th-7th June 2024.

Dr. C.R. Mehta, Director, ICAR-CIAE, emphasised the increasing importance of mechanization in agriculture due to reduced manpower, highlighting that mechanization is currently present in cereal crops like paddy and wheat but needs to be expanded for cash crops and horticultural crops. He urged the ICAR-KVKs to have at least one Agricultural Engineer to increase farm mechanization adoption among farmers.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. R. Selvarajan, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchirapalli, stated that the ICAR-KVK is the main linkage to take technologies to farmers. He further added that secondary agriculture is not possible without agricultural engineers and emphasized the use of technologies in the cultivation of Banana like automation, drip irrigation, and sensor-based technologies for precise use of resources

Dr. S.R.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur, briefed about the objective of organizing the workshop and emphasized the processing activities of all crops at ICAR-KVK level by Agricultural Engineers.

A total of 30 agricultural engineering experts from ICAR-KVKs across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh participated in the workshop.
