Review meeting of KVK, Dehradun on 3rd April, 2011
A review meeting of KVK, Dehradun was held on 3rd April, 2011 under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Deputy Director General, Agricultural Extension, Dr. K. D. Kokate in which Deputy Director General, Fisheries, Dr. B. Meena Kumari, Vice Chancellor, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Dr. B. S. Bisht and Zonal Project Director, Zone-IV, Kanpur, Dr. A. K. Singh were present. The various issues regarding upliftment and advancement of farming community and role of KVK, Dehradun in its strengthening were discussed in details
During the visit at KVK, Dehradun, Deputy Director General, Agricultural Extension, Dr. K. D. Kokate, along with dignitaries and a team of scientists visited farmer’s field in village Aasanbagh near Herbertpur and interacted with the farmers regarding vegetable cultivation. The team also saw the demonstrations on vegetables, wheat and other field crops conducted at KVK farm and suggested to channelize the micro irrigation facilities in the Litchi and Mango orchards.
Programme Coordinator, Dr. S. S. Singh briefed about the ongoing activities of KVK, Dehradun. It was appreciated by the DDG, that farmers are getting good quality of planting material which is the prime need to promote horticulture sector in the district. He emphasized to cater the need of farmer. He stressed that electronic advisory services are helpful so these should be sent as agri-tips for updating the knowledge of farmers regarding the technological advancement taking place in the field of agriculture to cover the even the distant farmers. He instructed to document the service providers of the district and collect the State and Central Govt. Schemes running in the district. DDG, Fisheries has suggested to evaluate the potential of small ponds of fisheries at KVK, Farm. It was also pointed out to work in coordinated manner for strengthening integrated farming system, evaluate the varieties which are location specific and provide it to the farmers in different regions to serve the farming community and also directed to spread the technical know how among the farmers for their dissemination at larger scale. The efforts made by KVK, Dehradun to produce vegetables seedlings in poly tunnel viz; Cauliflower, Cabbage, Cucumber, Onion, Brinjal and Chilli was appreciated. It was stressed that collaborative efforts are needed for selection of operational villages where scientist ensure frequent visits for the holistic development of agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors. He has also congratulated and directed to work fruitfully for the projects allotted to KVK, Dehradun. The team appreciated the efforts made by the farmers like Sant Ram, Desh Raj, Jagdish Prasad, Rishi Raj and Om Prakash in adopting scientific methods in their vegetable production viz. Chilli, Okra, Cucumber, Brinjal, Frenchbean, Onion, Garlic, Coriander. During field visit DDG, Extension emphasized that outstanding hybrids/ varieties of public sector should also be incorporated in the vegetable demonstrations alongwith private sector hybrids/ varieties.
